So Montreal Fashion ‘Week’ may have been more of a ‘Weekend,’ but we sure packed a lot into three little days and nights. Parties, after parties, pre-parties, cocktails, vernissages – plus a few fashion shows. As always, fashion week is a forecast for the future, a guide to the people who’ll be shaping your style in the months and years to come. Here are five fashion gurus we here at GURU Energy Drink are looking to in 2010.
1. Designer Simon Chang for being named to the Order of Canada for his charity work and success in the fashion business. Following in the footsteps of the top brands in the biz, from Ralph Lauren to Missoni, he recently launched a line of bedding and already has men’s and women’s fragrances bearing his name. He’s also designed hospital wear and flight attendant uniforms – now that’s range!
2 & 3. Photographer Marie-Reine Mattera for winning a Grand Prize for Fashion and Beauty Editorial. Also deserving credit for the fashion spread – a chic traipse through Chinatown – is prolific Montreal artistic director and stylist Denis Lemieux.
4. Singer / actor / jewelry designer Caroline Néron, for putting the show in showcase, sending models and dancers out in black leotards, hoop skirts, and carrying Chihuahuas (what would PETA say?).
5. Denis Gagnon, for bringing his style to the masses (finally). Very much a designer’s designer, he’s got a stud- and sequin-filled collaboration with Aldo coming out this spring (with help from stylist YSO), and is bringing his clean colors and draped fabrics to Bedo next fall.

The fashion week heard all over the world said farewell last week, and we’ve got the scoop on the send off with some pics from Fashion Indie’s Young Guns party. You can check out more shots care of photog Pat Miller, who seems to have taken a shine to GURU Energy Drink after being introduced to it while covering the festivities at The Delancey.
In his own (unsolicited) words: “After 29 cans down, my roomy Dave sure loves it too. Damn son!” Right back at you, Pat and Dave. Damn son everybody!

Okay, enough reminiscing. Time to get in gear for Montreal Fashion Week, starting October 13. After NYFW and Pop Montreal, you’re going to need beauty sleep and a major battery recharge (of course, GURU will always be there to help you fake it ‘til you make it).

Feeling a little dizzy from the back-and-forth, back-and-forth of the tireless teams of catwalk models? Make your way to Williamsburg where the pretty people are breathing new life into regular Fashion Week fare.
“Presented in a nontraditional platform style, the show consists of a series of entrancing experiences, ranging from a drive-in car scene to a posh living room cocktail party,” says Christopher ‘Tinypants’ Dang of tonight’s show from Love Brigade, a collective that comprises three fashion labels, a retail store and a music merchandising service. All three angles will be at work for their Spring/Summer 2010 Revival collection. Things kick off tonight at 8 pm in The Space on 8th, and you’ll find collaborations from (to name a few) hosts Famous Friends, video docs from The New Pop, Jump shoes, music from Finger on the Pulse, Gabriel J. Shuldiner necklaces and, of course, GURU Energy Drink. With so much sensory stimulation, it promises to give you more than the usual runway rundown.
You can find more info about the party and Love Brigade on their site.

Fashion week is going ahead full steam and the GURU’s still gushing at the trendiest parties in town. Check out two from Fashion Indie (“Fashion is a religion. This is its blog.”): tonight at club kid destination The Annex, co-hosting with party photo impresario The Cobrasnake, and then on September 18 at The Delancey as festivities come to a *sniff* close (that’s us choking back tears, not, er, the other sniffing associated with the fashion industry).

Ruff Club @ The Annex
If you can’t keep up with all the fun, you can always party vicariously – or at least check out the latest fashion world gossip – thanks to Twitter feeds from Fashion Indie and men’s editor Corey Moran.
And stay tuned for pics from these and other GURU Energy Drink-enabled Fashion Week events!
