Good things may come to those who wait, but there’s nothing like getting something early!
Jay-Z’s anticipated new album, The Blueprint 3,is available now, ahead of schedule (thanks, internet leak!) and already garnering rave reviews. The UK’s Daily Telegraph gave it four stars and said of the accomplished artist: “At 40 years old, [he] comes across as a well-rounded, sophisticated and diplomatic human being, more reliant on wit, charm and persuasive argument than all-out verbal assault.”
The first “Blueprint” album was released September 11, 2001, and Brooklyn native Jay-Z made waves last week with a 9/11 benefit show at Madison Square Garden, with appearances by artists like Rihanna and John Mayer.
Jay-Z also recently made a rare appearance on Bill Maher, who gave the rapper a gift of all his lyrics bound up in a book (aww, could it be that sharp-tongued Maher is just a big ol’ softie?).
Need more evidence that the rapper’s in line with the GURU philosophy? Jay-Z’s single “D.O.A.” has him touting the virtues of going all-natural – hey, just like GURU! – and calling the time of death on voice-distorting, robot-friendly Auto-Tune.
The U.S. government is set to vote on a final “stimulus package” which should “solve” all of our problems. Yippee! There are so many parallels to other aspects of our American society, it’s hard to know where to start the rant!
We get sick and the pharmas offer neat little pills that cure our symptoms but rarely address the underlying health problem. The omniscious food business concocts these great tasting foods which tickle our palate but blaze a path of destruction on our health for years thereafter. We borrow like crazy to fuel a historic consumption binge and we wake up dazed with a huge hangover. All of this is related. Short term gratification vs. long term pain.
Well now, our dear government will solve our over-consumption problem by stimulating: Consumption (Stimulus Bill) ! They will solve our addiction to debt by making credit flow easy again (TARP II)!
The solution lies in a CHANGE (remember that word, Mr. President?); a change in each of our attitudes about consumption, instant gratification and happiness. Plasma screens, new cars and chocolate ice cream will not make us happy. Once we start addressing the real problem, the symptoms will gradually disappear. My humble opinion.

Welcome Obama!
‘This is my favorite shot of all the hectic days at Art Basel; it exemplifies the signs of the times; I was so lucky that all those intimate moments combined into one.’

The Art of Obama blog, at artofobama.com, features a daily dose of graphics and graffitis in support of Barack Obama, most of it centered around street art / graffiti. Our favorite artwork was created by the HVW8 crew, fellow Montrealers now living in Los Angeles.
